Fall skies on Lake Erie

As summer’s long days give way to the crispness of fall, our bodies and minds naturally crave a shift. Just as nature begins to shed and prepare for renewal, this season invites us to pause, realign, and reset. What a gift!

Many of my friends and clients share that while they love the warmth, spontaneity, and fun of summer, they’re also deeply grateful for the return of rhythm that fall brings—especially with kids heading back to school. There’s comfort in routines, in knowing when the day starts and ends, and in reclaiming pockets of time for ourselves.

Fall is a perfect time to ground back into nourishing routines—whether that means refining your sleep, supporting your body with seasonal foods, slowing down your pace, or setting fresh intentions for the months ahead. Think of it as a gentle invitation to cultivate what’s working, release what no longer serves you, and create space for restoration.

This week, I encourage you to notice: Where in your life do you feel in rhythm with the season—and where could a small reset bring you back into alignment? Sometimes the smallest adjustments have the biggest ripple effects.

Personally, I am leaning more into my yoga practice – which tends to sit quietly while rowing fills my mornings in the warm summer months. Fall is a grounding, inward time for my practices which aligns with nature.

Ayurveda recommends countering the light, dry, and mobile qualities of fall with grounding, warming, and nourishing practices:

  • Food: favor warm, cooked meals (soups, stews, roasted root vegetables), healthy fats, warming spices (ginger, cinnamon, cumin). Reduce raw, cold foods.
  • Routine: establish regular schedules for meals, sleep, and self-care to balance.
  • Lifestyle: grounding practices like yoga, meditation, warm oil self-massage, and slowing down.
  • Environment: stay warm, protect against wind and cold, use cozy blankets, drink warm teas, fire up the sauna more often.

In essence, Ayurveda says fall is a time to anchor yourself—to bring steadiness, warmth, and nourishment into your body and routines as the external world becomes cooler, drier, and more changeable.

Thanks for being here as we settle into fall’s rhythm—each step we take toward balance and well-being makes the world a little warmer and brighter.

In best health,

Karen
